Rolan’s father was the only one left when the pedestal was being constructed, but that was okay. The memory of his spouse would live on through their child. His pedestal was lovingly constructed by paw and claw, hand engravings and every ounce of love poured into it. Perhaps that was why it wasn’t long before Rolan’s father began noticing something strange about the crystal. All of his love and care, that energy projected into the pedestal and crystal had loaded the thing with magical energy. It had started to crackle, waves of bright blue energy passing over it, oscillating back and forth. Rolan’s father was in awe and asked around as to what this could mean. Most were surprised and shocked but some older genekits looked at him knowingly and told him that this child, this beautiful miracle and the last remaining part of his beloved partner, was going to emerge with some incredible, life defining magical talent. Because of this, his father began tracking down as many rare spell components as he could, laying them at the feet of the pedestal, slowly accruing a huge variety of them in what he hoped would be a fitting decoration for the beloved child he was anxious to meet.
