Hiro was born to a poor couple, and his father passed before he even had a chance to emerge from his crystal. His mother was left to decorate his pedestal - in this case, it was less of a pedestal, and more of a table that was available. Hiro’s mother didn’t have much to decorate his pedestal with, but she did have one thing - a blanket she had crocheted with the scraps of yarn she had left. It was irregular because of the different sizes of yarns and multicolored, but it was beautifully crocheted and the love it was made with was apparent. She also included a beautifully arranged bouquet of wildflowers and flowers from her own meager garden. She put the arrangement in a vase handed down to her from her grandmother. She also included a little carved ship, carved by Hiro’s father before his passing. It symbolized his love for the sea, and his hopes that his son would love it as he did. Nowadays, this blanket and ship are his two most prized possessions, and they are kept safe for him by a dear friend who lives in the city. Hiro would never take them on one of the ships he worked on for fear of losing them forever.
