The place where Marriane’s crystal rested was a spectacle for all to see. The governor of Moranatlis having his first child? That was a huge moment. Her crystal, protected by a glass screen, was placed upon a golden pedestal, red plush fabrics adorning it and surrounded by beautiful, hand curated flowers from all over the continent. Filigreed columns bordered it, and a great tapestry depicting the families joy sat behind. No genekit would ever criticise the expense of another’s shrine for their future child, but this was beyond lavish. Was this really what the tithe they paid would go on? Whisperings of the governor’s lack of real dedication to his city had begun. Perhaps Marianne’s crystal’s resting place was the next nail in the coffin.

Of course, genekits throughout the kingdom flocked to the palace, wishing to view the pedestal. Was it genuine favour for the governor and his family, or was it in incensed and morbid curiosity… Regardless, it didn’t matter. It was viewed and observed by all who had the time. The governor, it seemed, hoped providing something like this would reshape how the people saw his rule. That perhaps this would be just the thing to allow people to worship him once more. He was wrong.
